Afghan Hound 

Origin & History:

An ancient sighthound from Afghanistan, the Afghan Hound was bred by nomadic tribes to hunt gazelles and hare in mountainous terrain. Introduced to the West in the 1920s, the breed gained fame for its regal beauty and aloof charm.

Size & Weight:

Afghan Hounds is a large dog that stands 25–27 inches tall and weigh 50–60 pounds, combining elegance with athleticism.

Appearance & Breed Characteristics:

Known for its flowing silky coat and aristocratic stance, the Afghan has a refined head, long topknot, feathered ears, and a distinctive ring-curl tail. Coat colors vary widely, including cream, gold, brindle, black, and blue.

Temperament & Personality:

A dignified and independent breed, Afghan Hounds are loyal but reserved. They may seem aloof with strangers yet often show a playful, clownish side with family.

Exercise & Training Needs:

High-energy dogs, they need two hours of daily activity—running, hiking, or lure coursing. Training requires patience and positive reinforcement, as they can be strong-willed.

Grooming, Shedding & Coat Care:

Their long, silky coat requires brushing several times a week, frequent baths, and attentive ear care to avoid tangling and infections.
