Airedale Terrier 

Origin & History:

Originating in England’s Aire Valley during the 1800s, the Airedale Terrier was bred to hunt otters and serve as a versatile working dog. Known as the “King of Terriers,” it has also worked in police and military service.

Size & Weight:

The largest of the terriers, Airedales stand 21–23 inches tall and weigh 50–70 pounds.

Appearance & Breed Characteristics:

Airedales have a strong, athletic frame, a dense wiry coat, and a signature tan-and-black color pattern. Their beard and bushy eyebrows give them a bold, intelligent expression.

Temperament & Personality:

Alert, confident, and playful, Airedales are intelligent problem-solvers. They are affectionate with family but can be stubborn and independent.

Exercise & Training Needs:

Active and energetic, they need at least an hour of vigorous exercise daily. Training should include variety, consistency, and positive reinforcement.

Grooming, Shedding & Coat Care:

Low shedders with a wiry coat that requires regular hand-stripping or clipping, plus weekly brushing. Bathing should be occasional to maintain coat texture.
