Alaskan Malamute 

Origin & History:

One of the oldest Arctic sled dogs, the Alaskan Malamute was developed by the Mahlemut Inuit tribe for hauling heavy loads across frozen terrain. They are strong, hardworking, and deeply bonded with people.

Size & Weight:

Males stand around 25 inches and weigh 85–100 pounds, while females are slightly smaller.

Appearance & Breed Characteristics:

Malamutes are powerful, wolf-like dogs with dense double coats, plume tails, erect ears, and expressive brown eyes. Coat colors range from gray and white to sable, red, and black.

Temperament & Personality:

Friendly, affectionate, and loyal, Malamutes thrive on companionship. They are playful but independent and can be vocal with their “talking” howls.

Exercise & Training Needs:

High-energy working dogs, they require daily vigorous exercise—hikes, pulling activities, or long runs. Training should be consistent to manage their independent streak.

Grooming, Shedding & Coat Care:

Heavy seasonal shedders, Malamutes need frequent brushing, especially during shedding season. Baths should be occasional, and coat care should focus on undercoat maintenance.
