American Water Spaniel   

Origin & History:

Developed in the Midwest United States during the 19th century, particularly Wisconsin, the American Water Spaniel was bred as a versatile hunting dog for retrieving waterfowl and upland game. It is one of the few breeds originating in America.

Size & Weight:

Medium-sized, standing 15–18 inches tall and weighing 25–45 pounds.

Appearance & Breed Characteristics:

The American Water Spaniel has a dense, curly or wavy coat that is water-resistant, typically in liver, brown, or chocolate. They have long ears, a muscular build, and expressive eyes.

Temperament & Personality:

American Water Spaniel is friendly, eager-to-please, and energetic, this breed is highly trainable and affectionate with family. They can be reserved with strangers but are generally good-natured.

Exercise & Training Needs:

Active and athletic, the American Water Spaniel requires at least an hour of daily exercise, including swimming, hiking, or retrieving games. They respond well to positive training methods.

Grooming, Shedding & Coat Care:

Weekly brushing and occasional trimming will help manage the coat. Regular ear cleaning is important due to their floppy ears. Moderate shedding should be expected.
