Origin & History:

The Basenji is an ancient breed from Central Africa, known as the "barkless dog." Traditionally used for hunting and guarding, it has a keen sense of smell and remarkable agility.

Size & Weight:

A Basenji stands 16–17 inches tall and weighs 22–24 pounds, making it small, compact, and highly athletic.

Appearance & Breed Characteristics:

They have a short, fine coat, tightly curled tail, and wrinkled forehead. Coat colors include red, black, tricolor, and brindle, often with white markings.

Temperament & Personality:

Alert, intelligent, and independent, a Basenji is playful and curious. It bonds closely with its family but may be reserved with strangers.

Exercise & Training Needs:

A Basenji is high-energy and requires daily walks and playtime. Training needs consistency and patience due to its independent nature.

Grooming, Shedding & Coat Care:

Very low-maintenance coats with minimal shedding. Weekly brushing is typically sufficient.
