Origin & History:

Originating in France, Basset Hounds were bred for scent hunting in the 16th century. Their keen noses and low stature made them ideal for tracking small game.

Size & Weight:

Basset Hounds stand 12–15 inches tall and weigh 40–65 pounds.

Appearance & Breed Characteristics:

They have long ears, droopy eyes, short legs, and a heavy-boned body. Coat colors include tri-color, lemon and white, or red and white.

Temperament & Personality:

Friendly, laid-back, and gentle, the Basset Hound is an affectionate family dog. It is social and enjoys companionship but can be stubborn.

Exercise & Training Needs:

Moderate exercise with daily walks is sufficient. Training can be challenging due to their independent, scent-driven nature.

Grooming, Shedding & Coat Care:

Low-maintenance coat requiring weekly brushing. Regular ear cleaning is essential due to droopy ears.
