Bernese Mountain      

Origin & History:

Originating in Switzerland, Bernese Mountain Dogs were farm dogs used for pulling carts and guarding property. They are one of four Swiss Mountain Dog breeds and valued for strength and loyalty.

Size & Weight:

Large breed, standing 23–27 inches tall and weighing 70–115 pounds.

Appearance & Breed Characteristics:

Tri-color coat of black, white, and rust. Long, thick, double coat with feathering on legs and tail. They have a strong, muscular build with a gentle expression.

Temperament & Personality:

Calm, affectionate, and loyal, the Bernese Mountain Dog is a gentle giant known for being an excellent family companion that is good with children and other pets, and thrives when included in all family activities.  

Exercise & Training Needs:

Moderate daily exercise including walks and playtime. Training should be consistent, positive, and gentle.

Grooming, Shedding & Coat Care:

Heavy shedder with seasonal blowouts. Weekly brushing is required; more frequent during shedding periods. Occasional baths and regular dental care are recommended.
