Origin & History:

Originating in Germany, the Dachshund was bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Its long body and short legs make it excellent for tracking and digging.

Size & Weight:

Small breed, with standard (16–32 pounds) and miniature (8–11 pounds) varieties. Height ranges from 8–9 inches.

Appearance & Breed Characteristics:

Long-bodied, short-legged dogs with smooth, long, or wire-haired coats. Coat colors include red, black and tan, chocolate, cream, and dapple.

Temperament & Personality:

Curious, brave, and lively. A Dachshund is loyal, affectionate, and can be stubborn but forms a strong bond with family.

Exercise & Training Needs:

Daily walks and playtime. Training should be consistent and patient due to their independent nature.

Grooming, Shedding & Coat Care:

Smooth coats require minimal grooming; long and wire-haired need regular brushing. Moderate shedding.
